Guild drama in 3 different heroic mode guilds, on different servers at the same time is causing my old gang of friends to rethink our ideal to raid 25 man only and just quit our guilds and reune to go 10 man so at least we'll be surrounded by people we care about and like and do what we love to do: brainstorm, work together and progress since we all feel that playing a game should be a pleasant way to spend our time, not another worry on our plate. Our goal would be progress raiding, but probably with the next content patch as we've all attempted or downed Ragnaros HC so in the mean time we'll probably farm some heroic modes for rerolls and have a giggle doing old content we skipped but I don't think any of us is looking forward to going after Raggies legs with a fresh team so we got a bit of time to build up in peace.
If we would manage to get these friends together, we might have a bit of an unfortunate class distribution:
Tanks: paladin + ?
Melee: retri paladin + rogue
Ranged: warlock + mage (both legendary wielders, rock on!)
Healers: holy paladin + disc priest + disc priest
and we'd have 1 more open dps spot.
I guess the 3 paladins can get out of eachother's way since they have different specs and the tank wants to reroll monk tank next expansion anyway. The 2 disc priests are my worry, especially since I'm one of them.
I'm going over options in my head that would be most beneficial but I have not done 10 man before in Cata (and hardly in Wrath) so I need a bit of help. I take it, healer number 3 needs some kind of offspec because you don't need 3 heals for every fight? I don't really have the right mentality to go for a full dps class, because I'm not competitive at all. These are the options I could think of:
1. Respec to holy + shadow
...so I don't get in the way of the other disc but I haven't melted faces since Karazhan and whenever I try holy I feel like a watered down resto druid (granted, I only do 25 and raid with 2 resto druids). Shadowpriest would give a nice buff to the other 2 casters and replenishment too right? (or am I still living in Wrath?) I got 4000+ unused valor points that I can invest in dps gear where needed. But doing the math: 3 paladins + 2 priests + 1 warlock per valor token, hmm? With the eye on next content, would we be gimping ourself?
2. Switch to my ilv 370 resto/boom druid alt and boost it through Firelands.
... so I have something different to offer. In theory she'd be most versatile as she'd also be able to go melee dps and tank, but I never tried either. I generally don't like looking at boss ass. How much of a benefit would an extra combat res be anyway (as the lock has 1)? There's only 1 per fight in 10, not? Trying to weigh GS VS Combat res as both can fulfil a raidhealer role. I've raided as a resto druid before and I kind of miss the feeling of being able to save the day with a well timed awesome cooldown. How much does this play a role in 10 man? Don't get me wrong, I like resto druids, but I wonder if she'd bore me after a while because they seem rather 1 sided. I like the idea of a boom offspec, nice buff for the 2 other casters, utility as well.
3. Level my super awesome pet project, a prot/holy paladin.
... so we'd have a second tank but I don't think it would be any benefit as it's probably easier to recruit a tank who's ready to go than learn how to tank in raids and gear this alt.
4. Dust off my level 85 green geared blood/frost DK flower picker
... same as the paladin really, I have issues understanding DKs since they skip 54 levels. :-/
5. Level a shaman
... so I can make it resto + ele/enh and offer totems. Somehow, the idea of totems appeal me... hmm, totems.
6. Stay disc?
... and sort of find a way to split ourselves, like 1 does tanks and other raid, one bubbles, other smites or something of the sort? Any priest out there tried this? I know both of our casters would like a PI, they're so greedy haha. I've played my priest as my main for 6,5 years, hard to abandon her. :S
Not even sure if this 10 man adventure will happen, but I just wanted to pick your brains because it takes my mind of the qq that's been bothering me lately. There's probably more than 1 right answer, but I would appreciate any input about either the reroll options, putting me right about (outdated) class opinions, optimal class synergies (e.g. buffwise) or the transition from 25 to 10 man.
Thanks in advance!
- EDIT -
We made the guild on 8/11/2011 \o/
I ended up staying Disc, still not sure about the offspec for now, probably will try out shadow to offer more flexibility. The other disc priest wasn't able to come as she'll be offline for 2 months.
