Rogue Legendary and Patch 4.3 Another interview showed up today in The Escapist. The most important part is the Rogue Legendary dagger and new raid level difficulty, but the important points are all below.
Well, I know some disagree with me but I think the risk vs. reward for 25mans needs to be looked at more. I understand that 10 and 25 man content are supposed to be the same in terms of level of difficulty, but recruiting and running 25 people (usually 30-35 people so you can rotate people in and have substitutes.) is fairly difficult in and of itself. Throwing a super easy everyone ones mode at it...isn't really the solution. Especially if they're going to share the same lockouts, since raiders still aren't going to want to PuG or run instances they need to run with their guild later.
The best way to help out and the shortest term solution would probably be to get rid of the 10 and 25 lockouts. That was a mistake from the get-go and killed the large, if not all, of the majority of casual side raiding because the only way for people with raiding mains to help out friends or family was to play with alts, which means the reward for them was even less since it wasn't benefiting their mains as much. I thought it was a bad idea to do it at the start of cata, I still think it's a big idea now. And they're avoiding the elephant in the room by being like, "You want to see the content? POOOOOP" and out it comes. Just because I want to see the content and wouldn't mind pugging doesn't mean I need the seat belt and child's safety seat strapped to me.
The thing is they keep throttling content and gear. It's great that people can get gear in heroics themselves, I'm honestly all for it, but they're throttling gear so that people don't get overgeared too quickly...and then nerfing content ASAP.
They're nerfing Firelands in less than two weeks, heroics and normals, what the hell? Wouldn't it have been easier to keep the VP cap up? Or rather, separate the lockouts? You can keep it so that 25m still isn't mandatory. In fact, the only diff is that casual to casualcore people get to learn the early fights faster, and there's less heroic grinding as well. People who are deadset against 25m or 10m still won't have to do it. People who don't care for heroics can do both. WIN-WIN-WIN.
Their raid design this expansion has been absolutely all over the place. I think they took a hit when most of their core design devs left at the start of WoTLK after the development phase. They should never, ever, nerf heroic modes unless they're at the point C'thun was pre-nerf in vanilla and essentially impossible. Those modes are there for people to strive for. Ulduar hardmodes can still be challenging, even to semi-geared 85s. That's a good design right there. Nerfing regular content? Totally fine as long as they wait until the next tier is out.
It's like they keep creating these design philosophies only to go back on them and then when they screw up they're like, "LOOK OVER THERE WE WILL THROW ANOTHER EASY MODE AT YOU WITH PURPLES, YOU LIKE PURPLES RIGHT?"
They could just get rid of the 10 vs 25 man lockout and have the raid finder not have "this mode is for people who poke themselves in the eye with their forks when they eat" mode because I think more people with raiding mains wouldn't mind continuing in firelands with friends/family and maybe a couple of LFR PuGs while their guilds work on hardmodes and the deathwing raid.
They can't really make it so that 10s and 25s aren't the same lockouts. You say that it won't be mandatory, but for hardcores who want loot, it will be. Didn't get what you wanted in the 25? Well, you have to run a 10 now and hope it drops. Every week.
I know it sucks ass. I hate it as much as you do. I liked GDKP runs on my priest for ICC 25. I didn't like 25s having different/better loot. But if you put them on the same loot table, people will feel obligated to go again and again. ToC 10/25/HMs again anyone?
Yeah but the difference was that the difficulty was really tuned down in 10m back in the day.
There are already tons of throttles and eases. Throttles: VP cap is low. Same lockouts. Most loot still comes from raid. Crap itemization.
Eases: BoEs Crafted loot.
There's like, little consensus on what they want. First it, people are getting too geared from raids (T11) so next major patch we're nerfing VP caps. Then it's Firelands is getting so hard (never mind that there's always shakeups during new tiers...I had to join a new guild myself) we're going to nerf it. However, gear takes longer to upgrade. On my main, I've been dedicatedly capping VP, and I've only just finished getting all the VP gear, to say nothing of my offspec. I'm pretty sure I would have had a way better time healing in Firelands if they hadn't nerfed the VP cap by so much. It takes two-three weeks to get a tier piece. Yeah there's Molten Front, but man, between raiding fresh content (so no VP), dungeons, and guild shakeups, I didn't have the time to do all of Molten Front. I could barely log on my alt.
And right now, hardcore people do the defeat and start raiding with alts/take a break after killing H Rag/Firelands achieves so...the new patch isn't even on the PTR, so why the nerfs? We have months before it's due to show up.
Either the game is too hard or it's not. If gear was easier to obtain, wouldn't Firelands be easier the first few weeks and people progress faster? There's something/lots of things that's killing 25ms except on the most progressed/active servers.
I'm not sure that taking 25m and 10m off the same thing would hurt Hardcores more. Most Hardcore people could have went to 10m if they wanted to. But they didn't. Most of them are looking for firsts, and time in 10m takes time away from working in firsts. They don't really care about gear anyway. They don't stay on normal/reset the next week for gear, they keep going so they get H First.
If anything the change would hurt casualcore most. Because they might feel more obligated to run both. But they're the same difficulty, and you still get VP from heroics. It would just be more incentive for people who: Hate LFG/New Dungeons Prefer 25m, but there's none on their server.
It would seriously work out just fine if Blizz: Stuck with doing more than one raid a tier. Kept shoulder and head tokens, as well as trinkets and weapons, on later bosses if possible.

Is that confirmed somewhere? I was actually hoping for my guild to down Rag before the nerf.

They're starting the nerfs on the 19th but that doesn't mean they'll nerf Ragnaros on the 19th.
