Warrior Tanking?

Hi wow_ladies!

Having done the RAF thing until my brain bled cried for mercy, I decided to grant my levels to a character and get to 85 on my new Horde server. That's where Bradamante comes in. First, I love her name (and if you know where it came from, you win at life and I love you), and warriors have sorta stolen my heart, 'n secondly, my guild could use ( Read more... )

Welcome to Warrior Tanking, evidently the most mobile tanking class so you can zoom all over the whole fugging place! :D

I have 4 tiers of keybinds on my warriors (plural, 5 of them all prot @_@) and I try to keep them all essentially the same button layout.

Tanking Nefarion

1-6 goes like this:
Charge/Intervene Macro), taunt, rend, Devastate, Revenge, (I forgot the name of this ability, the one that gives extra rage and removes fear effects @_@)

Shift 1 - 6:
Pummel, Heroic Strike, Shield Slam, Cleave, Demoralizing Shout, Disarm

Shift Tab - T:
Challenging Shout, Shield Block, Concussion Blow, Thunder Clap, Battle Shout, Commanding Shout

Shift Tilde, A - G:
Intimidating Shout, Heroic Throw, Gift of the Naaru (or any racial except for my goblin, lol), Shockwave, Spell Reflect, ... and survey, lulz.

The way I set it up is so that Shift 4,E,D are all AoE abilities that are in one column so its easy to press... I practically never tab target, instead using my mouse to target and/or use my "Oh Shit" abilities on the right side of my mini map.

Often times when I'm tanking and in my screen shots, you'd see "Ability is not ready yet"... yeah, I button spam. ._.

Arwydd's talents and my own have their differences, but it all depends what you feel is a better fit to yourself.

I normally open up with either a battle shout if there is a priest in the group, challenging if there isn't, and charge into battle and immediately press rend even before I hit the enemy and thunder clap and cleave at the same time. This -normally- is enough for me to generate enough aggro for me to set them up and position them in a nice pile for a shockwave. Once their all stunned from a shockwave, thats when I cleave, Shield Slam, and Devastate spam and hitting Thunderclap and Shockwave when they're all off cooldown. On the off chance that someone did tear threat away from me, I taunt back and shieldslam and devastate immediately to spike threat on me.

I have to disagree with not needing Vigilance until you actually raid though, even at lowish levels its kinda helped me if there is a aggro happy partymember it doesn't always happen, but its happened enough times... @_@

Oh and I like to keep Victory Rush handy since its a help on the self healing aspect of both tanking and soloing... Healer OOM and the target is either below 20%? Devastate until Victory Rush procs and yay health!

I used mods to offset the default nameplates but I ended up forgoing them for the default ones because they already show me if I have threat on me, if I do not have enough threat on them, or I had lost threat on them as is without any addons. >.>

Oh and something helpful if you're marking targets:

Press Esc - Keybinds - and scroll down. There will be a portion you can assign keybinds to raid markers. :) This has helped IMMENSELY for me instead of targetting a mob and clicking for the raid markers. Instead I have keybound my raid markers on my number pad so if a pull goes awry / people don't have to wait long for me to mark stuff, I can assign kill order/CC marks on the fly.

Yeah, I totally hit Intervene on accident and was all WHAT AM I DOING MAN WHAT DID I PUSH THIS TIME?! (Not my proudest moment, running away from an all-caster group...when I just meant to use Challenging Shout.)

I'm a button-spammer, too, partially because of glorious (/sarcasm) lag and partially because it makes me feel like I have less of a chance to fail. Or something.

I forgot about the tilde key. I tried to bind my push-to-talk for Ventrilo to it but it wouldn't work, so maybe it will work for a shiny keybind instead. :D And now that you mentioned some other keys, I could bind them, too, like E and T. I have R, F, and G bound.

Good idea with rend and then TC/cleave at the same time. If I put points in Blitz it would make that easy.

And yeah, right now I'm with much, MUCH better geared folks who are level 85, so Vigilance is handy right now. If I end up not caring much later I can always ditch it, but I get the feeling there will be a lot of snaphappy DPS in the dungeon queues...if I get brave enough to ever try a random.

Ahh yes, I use Victory Rush whenever it pops up. Free heal, good "just in case" and etc.

I like Tidyplates a lot as they take up less space on my screen, but I need to make them...not stack. That's aggravating to try and click to get the one mob not attacking me. D:

Thanks for the tip about raid markers btw. I was using wMarker and it's a nice addon but a keybind on my numpad would be easier I think.

#showtooltip Charge
/castsequence [harm] reset=15 Charge, Intercept; [help] Intervene;
