I would say this person has never quested through either Duskwood or Westfall. There has always been dissatisfaction enough in either place with how Stormwind responded to the concerns of the outlying towns and villages to warrant more breaks with the system that just VanCleef.
If everyone stayed at town, with their family, there would be no exploration and no study in farflung areas. Both of those have long precedence in lore. IMO if there's any question to be had it's with the nature of cross breeding, NOT with being a wanderer.
tl;dr, IMO you're fine. If you haven't run into question before tonight it's unlikely that you're playing him wildly off the wall, so I wouldn't worry about one person with their knickers in a knot.
(quick edit to clarify - note that I said IF there is any question, not that I DO think there is question about interbreeding. My brain goes biologically analytical places with that, but that's just me. It's not unheard of in lore, and is well accepted in the fantasy field in general, but as a comparison that's how little question I think there should be about being a wandering type.)
