Hello, All.
It's my first post here- and I specifically joined to share this little gem with the group.

This is a hearthstone I made a few months back. I've had a lot of people ask to buy them, but I don't sell, because it's a direct copy of an item from Blizzard, blah blah blah- however, since it's fan art, I am happy to tell everyone how to make one of your own. It takes 5 minutes and less than $5. -And that'll get you enough materials to make 10-15 hearthstones.. at least.
Buy a bag of the glass drops (I've seen then called "game counters" by some) that you find in the home decorating section of your craft store- They're the little flat rounded bits of glass used to fill vases and such, come in a million colors, and usually cost around $2 for a bag of 50 or more. I prefer the small ones, but if you really want to swing your WoWbling, you could go for the really big ones.
Then, get yourself a brick of Fimo or Sculpey in whatever color you want.
Find a small piece of wire (for the hasp)
Annnnd, it's not shown in this pic- but I really REALLY can't recommend enough that you take a wee little dime sized piece of crumpled aluminum foil. What the foil does is catch the light behind the stone- Once it's all put together, it doesn't look like a crappy piece of foil- it grabs the light, and really makes the stone shimmer and gives it depth and constant movement. -- I've also made one that has a tiny amount of glow in the dark clay behind the stone, and, while it DID work, the effect was so pale that it really wasn't worth the effort.
Knead your sculpey/fimo/oven bake clay. Roll it into a small ball. Press it flat.
In the center of the circle, place the crumpled tinfoil.
Lay the glass drop on top of the foil.
Twist your bit of wire into a loop leaving the two ends sticking out (to anchor the loop in the clay).
Stick your bit of wire at the top edge of your glass bead.
Fold the clay in over everything leaving only the loop of the wire sticking out.
Grab a toothpick and scrape out your hearthstone swirl.
Bake it according to your fimo/sculpey/oven bake clay instructions.
After it's cooled, I like to take a nail file to mine and rough up the edges and give it some very angular flat parts to help it look more like chiseled stone.
If you want added durability- try coating the whole thing with some clear acrylic glaze, or even clear nail polish would do the trick. Note- since this is clay it isn't up for hardcore wear and tear- DON'T SHOWER IN IT, and I even suggest not sleeping while wearing it. I slept in my first one (admittedly, NOT clear coated for extra protection) and the middle point of the swirl broke off after 2 weeks.. fortunately, it's easy to make replacements, but why do the extra work if you don't have to?
Put it on a chain & be the envy of your pals.
I've even had people who had no idea what WoW was compliment me on it.
