I'm considering in getting a Macbook for the use of more recreational things, like gaming. I know a desktop would be better for gaming, but I'm addicted to laptops and refuse to break this comfort/habit of mine. *face-palm ( Read more... )

I'm playing on a Macbook Pro from summer 08 and it's been holding up well. Ever since Cata dropped, I haven't been able to run Chrome at the same time as WoW, but that's also because I have a hundred million tabs open in Chrome! I would suggest upgrading the RAM if you can - I just have the "basics" that it came with but you can run WoW on higher settings with more. I have to run mine on pretty much the lowest settings ever or I'll have fps issues in busy fights.

I'm echoing the others to play on a solid surface, since these things heat up like no other and soft surfaces impede its built in fans... I don't have an external cooling pad fan dealie yet but I plan to get one soon because it's ridiculous how hot it gets, which also affects my fps...

And! I play and raid exclusively on my trackpad - in fact, whenever I try to play with a mouse, I struggle a lot (especially while dpsing in a movement heavy fight, surprisingly enough). This is mostly due to my play style (I've done all three roles in various capacities), but it's entirely possible on a Mac trackpad (I have never tried another laptop's trackpad but I imagine it would be harder since a Mac one is multitouch or something like that). But since you already play on a laptop, I'm going to assume you already have a mouse anyway!
