Resto Shamaning?

Ladies, I play a holy paladin. I don't know much about how resto shamans have changed with Cataclysm, but I know they have since healing as a whole has changed. My understanding, for the most part, is that you can't spam chain heal all day anymore, correct? It's using greater healing wave, lesser healing wave, and healing surge mostly? (Again, I ( Read more... )

I play a resto shaman in our 10 man progression raids, and a lot of raid healing. I do pretty darn well. My hpally & hpriest take care of my tanks. I take care of the rest of the raid, and throw extra heals on the tanks as necessary if the raid is doing okay.

My gear is pretty decent, but insofar as healing spells, my priority is:

=>Riptide -- Anytime this is off cooldown, I hit it.
=>Lesser Heals!!!!
=>Earthshield - Anytime it gets to 3 shields, I refresh.
=>Rains
Greater Healing (ONLY if someone's getting low on HP, and I have the time. This can eat up mana)
Surges
Chain heals

I use rains ONLY if the groups are stacked up. I don't use Chain heals all that much, unless I know it's only going to be 2 people who its going to hit (after 2, the efficiency rate goes down)

I'm guessing her gear isn't very good, so I would suggest:
1) spirit (until her combat regen is over 2k)
2) haste
3) int & mastery (ONLY after she's maxed out her other stats)

Also, if she isn't using any healing addons, she needs to do so. I use Vudho & Grid, but I know lots who swear also by Healbot.

Her gear is equal to mine. In fact, she got the majority of her gear before some of the rest of us.

Her stats are as follows:
Int: 4647 (6591sp)
Spirit: 2145
Haste: 10.61%
Crit: 20.12%
Mastery: 9.59%

She also has maxed enchanting and JCing, so she has some additional int buffs from that.

I do want to beg to differ you DON'T have to use healing add-ons. The only one I use is decursive. Some people swear by them, some people don't. I find they get in my way more then they help.

This! I don't use healing add-ons, but I do have mouseover macros for my healing/utility spells to save the hassle of clicking the target. That's essentually what Clique does in a nutshell to my understanding, but I was more comfortable just writing macros to fit my needs.

This. I have healed end game content until Cata when I semi-retired from raiding with only decursive, also. Though I have used some addons at some points, I find them less and less nessescary as Blizz's default UI and keybinds do much of what I need out of those addons.
