Hunters v. their bad reps

Apr 06, 2011 11:57

If you don't frequent the forums, or if you didn't see this discussion start, there is a thread that started on the basis of the eternal hunter v. 'huntard' debate. The OP had her group drop just because she was a hunter and is concerned the stigma will always be there for her chosen class. EDIT: Since battle.net is down, I'll add that they said ' ( Read more... )

I can't tell why people feel like that - I've seen my share of bad people in EVERY class. The fact that hunters have so many specific gearing, resource management and class mechanics with little or no intervention from Blizzard as to how to actually use them means that while they are picked up frequently by people who are new to the game (for soloing, for cute pets), there's few new people that automatically "get" what they are supposed to be doing. It seems to run high with death knights as well.

Hunter gear is streamlined and fairly non-complex now but people still feel the need to wear strength stuff or whatever.

I'd really like to see people stop referring to people as huntards though as it is fairly disrespectful/ableist.

PS: It's "stigma" not stigmata. Unless your hunter has gaping wounds through her hands/feet. o-o

haha, totally didn't even realize I'd written stigmata. Did a horror movie marathon last night and apparently it's stuck with me this morning XD

I'd really like to see people stop referring to people as huntards though as it is fairly disrespectful/ableist. This. Every single time I see someone say that, I very quickly ask them not to say that word. When I'm on one of my alts, it makes me sad to see a little hunter trying his hardest in a dungeon and then apologise for being "such a huntard". I whisper them and ask them not to say that and tell them they're doing fine and tell them my main is a hunter and if they have any questions or need help, to please let me know! I've probably helped five or six ickle hunters go on to be great players because I reached out to them and offered to help save them from being "another bad hunter". Even today... I did a LK run on my fresh-85 priest and the hunter in group didn't know the fight AT ALL. Instead of calling him a huntard, I whispered him a mouseover macro for tranq-shotting the horrors and told him to whisper me with any questions he had about his role in the fight ( ... )
