So I was thinking

I was watching someone do a brief video on the Southern Barrens the other day, and he mentioned that the zone actually feels "contested." While it's not PVP, you do quests that involve other-faction NPCs and such. And that got me thinking--why are there no PVE contested zones in the game?

I guess when you think about it, why bother with some sort of new mechanism when you've already got PVP to contest a zone. But I think it would be kind of cool to have a zone where, depending on how many players of which faction have done certain dailies or defeated the instance bosses or whatever, the zone presents differently. Not for every zone, of course, as the faction imbalance per server would be frustrating. But the zone could reset each day/every four hours/whatever other schedule. I really enjoyed things like the pre-AQ quests, with gathering lots of supplies and the like. Even the Argent Tournament stuff was fun (the first time). Feeling like the dailies, other quests, and repeated boss kills could actually have some effect on the world would be nice.

I'm sure there are a lot of headaches to sort out with such a set-up, which may be one reason it's never happened. Maybe it can't happen for various "how the game is built" reasons. But if you don't have a dream.... :)

fucking epic post, quests: dailies, quests: general
