Faction Change = Locked Name?

I had an Alliance Warrior that I recently changed to Horde for two reasons. One, because my friends played Horde and I was eager to play my Warrior with them. Two, because it was sitting on my main's name, who was back on my home server awaiting for me to transfer her. I really did not want to delete my Warrior, who had just achieved 70, maxed professions and Epic Flying/Rep grinds, to get the name. I was told that if I faction changed her and re-named her through the service, the name would not be blocked.

Boy, do I feel silly now. The name is blocked, for what i assume will be the standard three months. I thought it would not do that. I don't have the heart to re-name my main, either... is there some way I can fix this mess, with Blizzard's help?
