Somebody posted this on our guild forums:

I need help from the pro healer droods!
I'm going to be making a main spec healer drood and need help on a build. So far this is what I got and I'm all up on suggestions since I've never made one before.

I ended up writing quite a bit about my thoughts on tree healing, and I thought it ( Read more... )

Your other big Oh Shit button is Tranquility - a spell any druid can use, but trees get to use a lot. Our talented cooldown is 3.2 minutes and it causes zero threat. Do keep in mind that it only affects your party - so in raids try to make sure that you're in the same group as the tanks.

... huh?

Granted, I am a priest raid healer but uh... this seems weird to me.

I can't remember the last time I used Tranquility in a raid, to be honest. I do use it in 5-mans, but Wild Growth is much more adaptable in raids.

This. I never use tranquility.

I used Tranq the other day! ...I was in boomkin spec, we were doing the horrible three V-day bosses, and the healer'd gone down. I was trying to keep everyone up enough that I would be able to spare the time from healing to b-rez her. *panic panic don't have wild growth gotta heal everyone like ME and tank OH! TRANQ* **pretty noise and sparkles**

(Later, I pulled off a b-rez of the tank... There were like 3 seconds to go on brez cooldown, tank was down, healer was healing us, I'm going "AUGH"... And flash! And brez! And we have a tank at full health again! Gods, I love that glyph. And yes, I'm disgustingly proud of that set of kills.)

Surprisingly true.

"The "group" affected by this spell while in a raid group is the player's party, within a 30 yard range of the druid."

Lol, I meant that you would structure your raid around tranquility. We really only use it in 25s for things like blood queen air phase.

I ... totally missed that because it didn't even occur to me that someone might structure their raid around tranquility.

I wouldn't put a resto druid in with the tanks - they want to be with me and my mana tide totem. Everyone loves mah mana tide.

Yeah. That was kind of my point. Also relying on tranq as... anything.

Personally, I think Traqnility is out of date. It was great back in TBC when aoe healiong was fairly limited, often limited to groups, or just plain expensive - then it was an amazing heal, so good that even a Moonkin of feral could tip the balance between "oh shit" and "yeah, we're alive and gonna kill you all" by form shifting and hitting it. It was the ultimate oh shit heal.

Now? A shaman can spam chain heal (alternating with rip tides) forever more, priests can top up everyone and even druids have wildgrowth... a big, expensive aoe heal that's channeled, limited to group (rather than just, say, 5 close raid members who need it) and has an 8 minute cd? It hasn't kept up.

Aha, so THAT'S how Mana Tide works. I go and stand by our resto shammy's mana tide totem if I see it close by and nothing ever happens. Didn't know you had to be in the same group.

I really hate group restrictions. >_

Me too - but to be fair most of the group restricted abilities are pretty damn huge (draenei +1% hit, mana tide) or would stack to ridiculous degrees (shadow priest off healing/retridin off healing/healing stream) if they were raid wide :(

group restrictions = bleh. I was tanking Ony 25 yesterday and in phase three I wasn't getting any tremor totem action bc none of the shammies we're in my group :| Ony has a good time tail whipping everyone then.
