MogIt - The Basics

What is the purpose of MogIt?

MogIt is an addon that allows you to look through all available pieces of armor/weapons, sorted by armor/weapon type, and create sets of your own choosing. Want to mix Red & Purple Judgement just because? With MogIt, you can see what a horrible (or FANTASTIC?) idea that is before going ahead and transmogging it on your body.

Getting Started
To open the MogIt interface, you can either type /mogit in the chat box, or left click the button that looks like a Greater Cosmic Essence on your minimap.

Once the MogIt interface is open, you can adjust the size of the window by clicking and dragging the lower left corner.

Opening the Preview Window / Changing Race/Gender
Select Preview, then New Preview and you should see a 'naked' paperdoll of your character. You do not have to have the preview open to begin creating a set, but it does make things slightly easier when you are getting familiar with the addon.

NOTE: If you are making a mog for someone else, then you may want to use their race/gender.

  • To do this in the MAIN window, click on 'Catalogue', then select race & gender from the list.
  • To do this in the PREVIEW window, click on 'Preview' and you will find the same lists.
Starting a New Mog
The first step to creating your mog is to load the correct module by going to 'Modules' and clicking from that list. I generally start by loading the armor class I want to work with, and the weapon class.

Note that you can use MogIt without loading any modules - however, by 'loading' a module, the addon is able to pull data such as where each piece drops from and what other items share it's appearance, so it's best to always load your armor/weapon module first.

Once you have loaded a module, an arrow will appear for submenus. You can further narrow down what you want to look for by going to the armor/weapon submenu and loading it - for example, the 'Shoulder' module.

From here you can scroll through all the shoulders available for this armor class. If you go to 'Catalogue' and 'Show Filters', you can narrow down your choices even further.

To zoom in or out, hold the left mouse button and move your mouse up and down. Holding the left mouse button and moving the mouse left or right will spin your character. To adjust the camera position, hold the right mouse button and move the mouse around. Moving your character like this is very useful for seeing how certain weapons/offhands look with a set when you might not be able to tell by looking at them head-on.

  • If you know the name of the shoulders you want to add, you can type part of it in and it will narrow down the results.

  • If you don't want anything that requires PvP (for example), scroll down to 'Source' and uncheck 'PvP' from the dropdown list.

  • By default, the 'Class' selected is the class of the character you are currently on, and you will only see gear up to the level of your character.

  • If you are making a mog for someone who is not the same class as you, you can change this by unchecking your class and checking theirs.

  • MogIt is not a perfect addon. This means, that despite all these filters, it may still show gear that is either not available to your class (due to Raid Finder restrictions), or is no longer available in the game.

  • Due to these limitations, before setting your heart on a piece we recommend you double-check on Wowhead to make sure it is available to you. The Comments section is always a good place to look for others having issues or confirming things.
For the purpose of this tutorial, we'll start with Yaungol Deathcult Shoulderguards.

Because you have loaded the item's armor class module, by hovering over the item you should be able to see information such as the item's source (not always specific, so Wowhead is a good backup here), whether it's Bind on pickup or Bind on Equip, the required level, and the item level.

With the Yaungol Deathcult Shoulderguards, you will also see a list of items with the exact same appearance - this will not always happen because some item models are unique. Kaylexanna is a paladin, so I can also see the paladin-specific tier items that share this appearance.

You can change which of the items is selected by either left-clicking to cause it to through the list of items with the same look, or you can right-click and then select which item you would like to add to your preview. Because you cannot see the source of the other items without left-clicking to scroll through the list, that might be the easier option if you're not familiar with the item in question.

For example, by left-clicking once, we can change our selection to the second set of shoulders in the list, Shoulderplates of Gushing Geysers. We can see that these drop in normal Siege of Orgrimmar. There isn't a whole lot of information about this item, however, so we would need to check Wowhead to see which boss in there it drops from.

Again, Kaylexanna is a paladin and I have the filters set to show paladin class specific loot as well, so the other options in the list are mostly paladin-only tier. The first option, however (the Yaungol Deathcult Shoulderguards) are from Ordos. Since I already own shoulders with this model, I can see the green checkmark next to the specific item I own.

Changing the item you add to your set can be helpful, as when you own a specific piece, a green checkmark will show in the lower right of the preview. However, MogIt does not check whether you have other items of the same model, so in order to have it correctly mark you as owning the piece, you must select the specific piece you own / will be trying to get.

You can also see if an item is available from a quest, and whether you have already completed the quest or not.

Adding the item to a mog
Right-click your item and select 'Add to Set'. If you already have sets saved, you can choose to add it to one of these. If this is your first set, or you want to start a totally new set, select 'New Set' from the list. You will be prompted to name your set - you can name it anything you want. Mostly I like to stick to the naming convention of ARMOR CLASS - Descriptor (e.g. 'MAIL - Purple Gold') but sometimes I accidentally slip and call a set 'I WILL FIND SOMETHING TO MATCH YOU SOMEDAY AHHHHHHHHH'

If you select an item, then decide you want to replace it with something else, you can either control right-click the item on the preview to remove it, or you can simply add the new item to the same set, replacing the existing item in that slot.

If you have multiple previews open, you can change your active preview by clicking the 'Activate' button in the lower left corner of the preview window. This will let you see the rest of the set you have put together while scrolling through additional items in the main window.

Another neat thing you can do is weapon enchants to show up in the MogIt window. Go to Catalogue -> Weapon Enchant to see several different enchants, filtered by classic, expansions, or Runeforging (Death Knight only).

Keep repeating the process with other items until you have built your full set (or as much of it as you want to at the time).

Linking A Set To Others
Hit 'Enter' to open up a chat box. In the preview window that has the set you want to link, click 'Preview' -> 'Chat Link'. This will put a string of code into the chat box, but when you hit enter, it will convert to a MogIt-specific link. Note that if you are linking it to someone without MogIt, it will show up as code and they will not be able to view the link, but those who do have MogIt installed will be able to click it and have the preview pop up so they can see what you've made.

If someone links you a mog that you would like to save to your own list to either use yourself or work on later, go to the Preview window with that set and click 'Save' -> 'New Set'. Name your set and accept.

Wishlist
To see all your sets at once (instead of loading individual previews), you can go to 'Modules' and at the top, click 'Wishlist'. This brings up your sets in a grid view, arranged in the order they were created. By hovering over them, you can again see small checkmarks next to the pieces you have collected and use this to help gauge how close you are to finishing your mog.

Misc

There are several other basic controls for MogIt, which you can see by hovering over the 'Help' section in either the main or Preview window.

MogIt Plugins

Once you have a handle on the basics of MogIt, you may want to add some plugins to add extra functionality. You can install these exactly the same way that you would install other addons, but they require MogIt to be enabled in order to work.

Here are some of our favorites:
  • MogIt_Highlighter - This plugin makes it so that when an item that has been added to any of your sets/wishlists either drops or is available as a quest reward, there will be a bright, glowy border surrounding it to remind you to keep it for transmog.

  • MogIt_Sets - Adds a module underneath the armor/weapon modules called 'Sets' - you can scroll through full tier and PvP sets. Note that this seems to have only been updated to the end of Cataclysm.

  • MogIt_Wowhead - Adds a module underneath the armor/weapon modules called 'Wowhead' - loading this will give you the ability to view all pre-collated transmog sets from Wowhead's database. USE WITH CAUTION: I made a beautiful transmog with this module only to find that 4 of the pieces were no longer obtainable in game. SOB.

  • MogIt: SetTransmog - Adds a button when at the Transmogrification NPC to transmog a full MogIt set at once (will only transmog pieces that you own).

We hope this has been helpful - please feel free to leave any additional questions in the comments!
