Recourse post Putting a gif in a blend.
Today we’re making this -
What you need, photoshop cs3, cs4 or cs5(this was made with cs5)
Knowledge of how photoshop works and how to animate with it.
Step 1: Make the blend
Start by opening a new canvas, I’m working with the 800x600 size for this one.
Step 2:
Take all the images/brushes/textures or whatever else you want to use and blend them together. (I chose just to work with different brushes, yes it’s cause I’m slightly lazy.)
This is what I’ve got -
http://i46.tinypic.com/28lw3ro.jpgThen minimize the blend
Step 3: Make the animation
a) Open a 500x500 canvas and make sure you have the animation window open. If it isn’t you can find it in the tab called window
b) Add the 20 caps you wish to use for your animation, if you use more it will be too big and you might not be able to save it
c) Sharpen the caps, one cap at a time
d) Resize them so that they are 40/50 % smaller than the originals, or the size that will fit in the “frame” you are putting it in.
e) Make the animation by clicking “make frames from layers” -
http://i46.tinypic.com/2dka0ip.jpgf) Make sure to crop the gif so that you only have the gif itself and no empty space
g) Set the speed. I set it to 0,08 seconds per frame. This is what I have right now -
http://i48.tinypic.com/68dczk.jpgSo now I have two files, one is the blend the other is the gif.
Step 4: Moving the animation in to the blend
Select all the 20 frames of the animation and click copy frames. You find copy frames in the same place you found make frames from layer, when you have done this you go over to the blend and click paste frames. When you click paste frames, which is found in the same place as copy frames, you’ll get a small pop up window, in it you choose paste OVER selection. Now you have the gif in the blend, however it is in the wrong place.
Step 5:
You click the folder and make a grouping, and select all the caps of the animation and put them in this folder. Now they’ll be easier to move around.
Step 6:
Place the animation where you want it. When you’ve placed it where you want it, select the group layer and make a mask layer and erase the bits you don’t want.
Which I’ve done and have this result -
http://i49.tinypic.com/ie09r4.jpg Step 7: Colouring
You of course want to keep the whole blend to stay in a high quality, and to do this is to keep a monochrome like colouring. Like this -
http://i48.tinypic.com/s4mb2c.jpg Step 8:
Add whatever text you want.
Step 9: Saving
Save it as a psd and then you go to save for web and devices.
Now all you need to do is upload it on a site like photobucket or tinypic.
