Bits and Pieces, part 2 (Word Count - 592)

Everything was going according to plan. The Polyjuice Potion had been brewed and Tonks thought it successful. She planned to test out the potion on the Hogsmeade weekend in March. She could sneak off in secret. With all of the students stomping through the village, she thought she could go unnoticed. Her only problem, so far, was that she needed a piece of someone. Who should she pick?

While waiting to depart from Hogwarts for the trip, Tonks looked around her fellow schoolmates. She had plenty of options to choose from but it couldn’t be just anyone. It needed to be someone who wouldn’t be easily noticed. Eventually, her eyes landed on Charlie Weasley. He was definitely easy noticed. Tonks liked to look, anyway. However, he was also a Weasley and there were loads at Hogwarts, five in total. What was another one?

Tonks walked up behind him. She had the idea that she’d just pluck one. Charlie yelped loudly. She hadn’t pulled out just one strand of hair, she had pulled out four.

“What the bloody hell?” While reaching up to rub the spot on the back of his head that had hairs missing, he turned around. “Tonks? What are you doing?” He wasn’t happy to see her, at all.

Immediately, her hands went behind her. “Sorry Charlie, I saw a bug.” Tonks smiled apologetically. “It’s gone now.”

“I would hope so.” Charlie was still glaring at her.

“Well, I’ll leave you alone now that you’re pest free.”

“Pest free? No, not really.” However, his glare had softened into something of a smirk.

Tonks opened her mouth to say something smart in reply but then remembered why she was talking to him. She promptly closed her mouth, took a breath, and then replied. “Yeah, well, let me make sure that you’re completely free of pests.” She turned around and walked off. Tonks shoved his hair into the pocket of her jeans as she walked away.

In Hogsmeade, Tonks abandoned her usual gaggle of mates. She told them she’d catch up with them later; she wanted to see a cute boy about a snog. They giggled and left her alone so that Tonks could walk towards the Shrieking Shack but that was not her destination. She continued to walk past it and into a wooded section. There was a little clearing in the middle. It was the perfect place to drink the Polyjuice Potion, change, and hide her things while she waited and experimented. Hardly anyone ever came this far out, certainly not a student. She knew that she’d be safe here.

She stripped and changed into the boy’s uniform that she had nicked from the laundry. After that, Tonks took out a slender glass vial and removed its top. All four strands of Charlie’s hair went into the potion where it instantly changed. It became dark red and was shot through in some places with iridescent bits of gold and green. Tonks was reminded of a Chinese Fireball.

“Bottoms up.” What Charlie Weasley tasted like was a subject for another day.

Almost immediately, Tonks felt her body start to change on her own. It was an entirely different experience than when she morphed her body. She shot up about afoot and everything became a bit wide and a bit blockier. Her hair changed from pink to red. Freckles appeared here and there on her body. When it was all over, she was the spitting image of Charlie Weasley.

“Brilliant!” Tonks immediately found out that her voice was unaffected by the potion.
