It was Halloween and she was late. Tonks wasn’t late for a particularly important date. However, she didn’t have the time, at the end of her shift, to redo all of her paperwork for the week and still be punctual. Scrimgeour was being a bit of an arse about it, if you asked her. Magenta was a perfectly lovely shade of ink to use. What did that bugger know? He knew enough, being the head of the Auror department that he could and would make her redo everything in black ink.
As soon as she had completed everything, she had raced back to her flat as quick as she could to change out of her clothes and into something more festive. For Tonks, more festive meant anything other than her Ministry appropriate work attire (that was only just on the right side of appropriate). She slid into a pair of dark jeans, a lime-green top, put her boots back on and morphed her hair a dark plum color that was streaked through with bits of orange. Tonks then threw a multi-strand black necklace over her head, grabbed her coat and apparated straight away to the little park near 12 Grimmauld Place.
Tonks all but ran across the road and into the house. She hoped that she wouldn’t be too late for their little gathering. She had forgotten whose idea it had been, dinner on Halloween, but Arthur and Molly were going to be there. Remus and Sirius’ presence was a given. She knew that Moody couldn’t be there but Kingsley had mentioned that he’d try to stop by.
Once inside the house, Tonks scurried down the long and narrow hallway towards the kitchen. “Wot---“ Halfway down the hall, she tripped. It was impressive, surely she would have received top marks for her tumble. She did complete one-eighty midair and landed with a loud thud on her backside. Tonks lifted her head and glared at the object that had just caused her downfall. It was that troll-leg umbrella stand, again.
“That’s it.” Tonks hauled herself to her feet. She then picked up the umbrella stand and started to walk back to the front door. Not bothering with magic, she kicked open the front door where a second later, Tonks hurled the umbrella-stand out through the open door. “AND STAY OUT!”
The stand had an impressive amount of air time before finally arcing down towards the ground. It shattered into several large pieces. Her wand then came out to banish the remaining pieces. She dusted off her hands, satisfied with her work. “Right, that’s sorted.” Tonks then made her way back into the house after closing the door behind her.
She didn’t have any more problems in getting down the hallway and in joining her mates around the long, narrow table. “Sorry about that. I hope I’m not too terribly late.” Tonks took the first available seat she came to, oblivious of the smirks and smiles that she was receiving.
“Did you have any problems getting here Tonks, dear?” Molly asked, carrying out a large pot of stew.
“Not a one.”
