Last December during a wet weekend I decided to create a profile on a French dating site for « seniors « . My friend Karine had told me about it, and she had enjoyed meeting and interacting with people via the site, so I thought that I might as well.
I didn’t want to pay, so I went with the free version, stuck up a few photos and answered a ton of questions about what I was looking for and then sat back. On one level it was really reassuring, I had loads of likes and messages, but on another level the selection was pretty disappointing. They would announce that Jean-Luc had shown interest in your profile and he meets your criteria, because he is average height and doesn’t smoke. Well that was far from meeting my criteria and I became embarrassed by all these lonely guys, most of whom had not read my bio, but were fooled by my smile.
I have become friends with one person who lives in the Creuse, but otherwise the whole experience has changed my mind about wanting to date. However it is very difficult to delete the free version so I keep getting emails. I have discovered that if I delete the emails without opening them that slowly reduces the amount that I receive, and the positive side of the experience is that I appreciate my single status far more.
