On Monday evening David's cousin Ian phoned to say he was a bit worried about the house in the Gers, so as I had a day off today we thought we would go down and see the damage.
We put the dogs in the car and set off, and it rained the whole way down there. Bess was sick on Azie's basket, but apart from that they weren't too bad.
By the time we arrived the rain had turned to sleet...
Trees had fallen, and someone had started clearing the damage.
After wandering around in the icy wind and sleet for a bit we decided to go for lunch. We drove to Montreal, (which David insists on pronouncing Mont-ree-all) but of course everything was shut, it's February, for heaven's sake! We managed to get back to Condom before one o'clock and found this little restaurant open, and the patron was positively friendly.
David had a Gercenoise pizza (very like a Quercynoise, but with more duck), and I had a chevre et miel. (Goat's cheese and honey). We were right by the oven which was good for warming us up.
Afterwards I insisted we walk around the town a bit, as I was driving home and didn't want to be digesting at the same time.
I thought this duck rather unusual.
There was a calf in this trailor, he was not very impressed by the mode of transport.
The river was high, and somewhat muddy.
I loved the lacy look to this ironwork.
and to the cathedral doorway.
Bess surveys my every movement...
and is pleased when I return from taking photos. (Note the halti headcollar which Azie wears, I can reccommend it for dogs that pull, it has made it so easy to walk the two of them with just one hand.)
