So, um, I may or may not have stayed up until 2 in the morning playing Sims 2 (and up until even later reading really interesting pieces in the New Yorker). But I would like to state for the record that I also cleaned the house, cleaned out my desk -- which I haven't done since I bought it almost three years ago -- and sussed out the contents of about 15 CDs which had been hiding in the depths of it. I also watched two separate episodes of "Flip That House" on TLC two separate times and caught a Lewis Black special on Comedy Central, which was awesome because it aired after midnight which meant they didn't bother bleeping things out. And I still got up at eight-thirty and got out of the house (it is SO COLD, by the way) to get coffee and breakfast.
But you guys, I
has a computer! I had been going back and forth about getting a new MacBook or a MacBook Pro, and had pretty much decided on the MacBook because the Pro's are so much more expensive and I don't need anything that high-powered, but the MacBooks only come in the 13-inch screen, and when I use the one my Mom has it always suprises me how small that is. But I was home over Christmas and using my sister's computer, and I thought, "You know, I've always liked this computer..." She has had hers for years, back when they were new, and she's beat the hell out of it so it's falling apart now, but it's still a huge workhorse and knowing how badly Alice has treated it, it's really amazing that's it's still even in remotely one piece. Also I like the keyboard style -- the keyboards on the new MacBook Pros are one of my least favorite things about them, for some reason. So anyway -- I came home from Christmas and decided to poke around on Ebay and see what I could see, and now I has! It's very exciting. It looks great and the battery is still really good -- but it did die on me the other day when I was playing the Sims, and I got up, walked up into my room, came back out, and plugged it in, and when the screen came back on I was literally right where I left off. The Sims was up, my guy was still making lunch; the whole nine yards. TOO AWESOME.
It's not a perfect world yet. I can set up my old computer as a server and move stuff from that hard drive to this one, but it's slow as hell and took me about two hours to move over 1.26 gigs of all my documents and pictures, but I still have something like 18 gigs of music and there's no way I'm moving it over the same way. So I'm basically in an endless (but enjoyable!) downward spiral of consumerism: if you give a Faith an iPod, she'll need a new computer to go with it. If you give her a new computer to go with it, she'll want an external hard drive to move her music from her old computer to her new computer. Oh, and also she will want a laptop bag. The iPod is a minor but not pressing problem, since I've got Shelby's music on it right now. I need to do some research, but I think now that I've formatted it for her PC I might have to reset it in order to get my music on it. Whee!
So yes. I has a computer, it's really fucking cold (current reading: -11F), the people at work continue to be awesome, I brought home Scotch on Friday. Life is good, by and large.
