An Inspiration Post

Hello, everyone!  How are you?  I hope that you're enjoying spring (or fall, for those in the southern hemisphere...).  There's still one month before the due date for our fest, and evening12 and I have already received some absolutely fantastic submissions.  We can't wait to see what the rest of you are cooking up! :)

This post is for those of you who are having some trouble with your fics, or those who jut want some general writing advice/inspiration/etc, either for the fest or for other work.

Tips/Advice For Getting Motivated
  • Join highstakes_ww!  This is hands-down my favourite way to get motivated.  Go into their chatzy, propose a word war, and then write your fingers off for twenty minutes or so.  If you write for 'stakes', the person who writes the most in the allotted time gets to request a fic from the person who writes the least.  But stakes are optional ^_^
  • Play a game with yourself - put on a playlist or a piece of music (I like ~10 minutes of instrumental pieces, but pick anything you can listen to while writing without getting distracted) and write until the playlist is done.  Then count up the number of words you wrote, put the playlist on again, and try to write fifty words more than you did last time.  Self-challenging is a great, easy way to get things written.
  • Try write or die or written kitten - depending on whether you like the negative reinforcement of having obnoxious music played at you if you stop writing, or the positive reinforcement of looking at a new kitten every 100 words.
  • If you're strapped for ideas, check out writeworld's amazing collection of quote and picture prompts.  You're guaranteed to find something that inspires you!
