I don't know if many/any of you remember this incident but at the last SF exchange in 2005 Ben kept getting these hives all over and they never really found out why.

Well, lucky me, apparently now I have it too. I woke up with an itch on my wrist and neck which moved on to being my arms, shoulders, neck and head.

At first I didn't pay much attention to it and just washed my sheets thinking it was bug bites or something. But at Disney on Ice (with Laura, Julie, Glenn and Aimee (which was fantastic btw)) it spread like the plague all over and I had to take off my thumb ring because my thumb and palm of my left hand actually swelled up. It was not cozy. So I went to the First Aid during intermission and got some benedryl and then after the show decided I should go to the hospital.

I got there at 8:30 (the ER at Kaiser on Morse Ave.) with some symptoms including a swelling in my lip and left at 11 practically symptom free, I'm guessing it took the benedryl that long to work because I pretty much waited 90% of the time I was there. I think I fell asleep a couple times while waiting too.

So, everything is pretty much okay now. The doctor seemed to be mad at me for not having a logical reason as to why it was happening and proceeded to scold me including "you could die from this". Gee, thanks. So now I get to carry around epipen which is a shot I am supposed to stab in my thigh if I'm having the allergic whatever again and then go to the hospital.

I'm just happy that I'm going to be okay. I was really worried when my hand swelled up and when my lip swelled up. Which is what fueled me through the hospital visit even though all I wanted to do was sleep.

Oh and the EMTs at Disney at Ice were so much nicer and more helpful than everyone at Kaiser. Boo Kaiser.

So a little before 6:30 am I was pulled out of a deep sleep by my feet itching and hurting a lot, and as I rubbed them together it seemed to only get worse. Before too long I realized what was going on and dragged myself to the bathroom and forced myself to open my eyes and inspect the damage. My feet and all of my legs were covered in hives. Sweet.

Now I get my booty in gear and leave the house to get benedryl and calling Kaiser on the way. So, they tell me not to go to the ER and to take benedryl every 4 hours and come in for an appointment at 2pm. Yeah... I don't have a high tolerance for medicine so me making it to Kaiser with about 100mg+ of benedryl in my system did not seem likely. So I went to the ER where they looked me over and by now my arms had broken out as well. From there they sent me to the MTU. After waiting I (finally) met a doctor who was really in to taking care of my condition. By the time I saw him my back was beginning to bump. He perscribed 2 different pills and 2 different creams for me to use in order to rid this demon from my system.

I just took the pills after eating for the first time today and the status of the rash is - EVERYWHERE. I am covered in hives in varying size and proximity to each other. Also the left side of my lips have swelled up. Gee, I sure am glad I waited to go to that appointment at 2... idiots...

Hopefully this medication marks the end of my ER visits. But I sure as hell am not going to bother talking to an advice nurse again.
