So my wife and I have progressed to the sterile plastic 3-ounce cup / laboratory technician stage of our family-making process, which lead to me living out my own personal episode of 24 this morning

that the woman puts the fault on the man. Been there, done that...of course I did have a problem that required surgery. Good luck - lets hope you and the cup don't become as familiar as I am with it. At some point I am hoping my wife will be involved.
