[Mello's not actually in the shot, he's no where to be seen in the apartment. On the table is the top half of a pizza box with Roman characters written on it. It's clearly the crude version of a
Ouija Board. Instead of a wooden pointer there's an overturned glass. Matt is sitting on the couch and he turns a little when the bathroom door opens

He glances at the makeshift Ouija board, the crude letters written across it.]
Feel like I should be at a fuckin' slumber party...
[He sighs and leans forward, giving the glass a little nudge. At least he tries to.]
Hope this works.

You can guide my hand. Tell me who I'm talking to! What's your name?

[But he does as she suggests, guiding her hand to the M then to the three letters that follow. Better for him to tell her than for her to come up with something on her own.]

Ma-ah-to. Matto. That's...an American name...are you an American ghost?
[And the owner of the Faciliberry finally makes his appearance. Mello drifts through the door, looks from Matt to Ai to Matt again and at the cardboard thing in front of her.]
What the fuck are you doing?
Reply
[He nudges the glass towards an upper corner of the board, where "Yes" is written out.]
Communicating with the dead.
[He answers in Mello's direction but doesn't look away from the board. After a moment he reconsiders his words and shrugs.]
Or living. Whatever.

[Mello crosses the room, standing on the opposite side of the table watching]
Why are you here? Did you live here? Did you die here? If you're from America why are you in Japan? ...I guess I should keep this simple, right? Um...what brought you here?
[Mello considers this]
Business, would be my answer. What are you going to say?

[Matt frowns, proving that it does take some measure of concentration. For once it might pay off to be a genius. He smirks a little as he's guiding the glass.]

[Squeals loudly] So cuuuuuute!!! You traveled around the world for love! Was this a long time ago? Did it take months to get here? Did...did you die for her too?

Should I?
[Mello probably knows what he means -- correcting her about the next to last word. He flicks the glass, inching it towards the word YES.]

Your call.
[He "Tch"s the "yes" answer though. He will never forgive himself for what happened to Matt. Ever.]
That's so romantic. What happened?
[Mello answers this one by kicking the table which shudders]
Okay! Okay! Something else. Um...why have you contacted me?

[Mello's thinking the exact same thing. If Ai was just a little younger, she'd be telling this story in homeroom]
G-get out?! I live here! Why should I leave!? [But she sounds nervous, and she's clutching her bathrobe closer]

[Matt sits back, takes a deep breath.]
Anything you want me to tell her?
Reply
[Mello doesn't say anything after that. But...Matt's seen it before. He knows what it's like emotionally. Mello feels like all he can do is comment as an outsider. He can offer law and citations but it's not the same thing.]
Matto?! Are you still there? Tell me why I should leave!
Reply
When he starts guiding her hand again, he does it much faster.]

[Ai's eyes go huge and tear up. She clasps her hand over her mouth.] No! It's not true! He loves me! You don't know! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!
