[Matt crouches down close to it and snaps his fingers.]

[It turns its flat face towards Matt, blinking its huge yellow eyes. It stretches its front paws towards Mello, arching its back the other way, yawning hugely. Then very abruptly it jumps down off the couch. It takes its time crossing to Matt, winding around the table leg and pausing to consider the carpet before coming up to him and butting its head against his hand]

[Mello just watches, a little surprised.]

[Matt looks a little surprised too. But then he smiles a bit and makes with the motion of stroking along the cat's back, whether it can really feel it or not.]

[Feeling it or not the cat seems to approve. Mello rolls his eyes]

Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm not a fucking cat, cats are stupid and disgusting and they get hair all over everything.

[He sighs]

[Matt arches a brow at Mello with a 'sound familiar' expression. He sighs at that question too though and stands up again.]

Probably not. Think you can last however long this takes?

[Ai crosses the room to the kitchen to throw out the bloodied paper towel and drop the ice into the sink. Mello watches from the couch, rising to his feet to watch her from the doorway]

[He's bluffing, just a little. He's assuming this will come to an end, but they really don't know when.]

You know what she should do? Catch the fucker asleep and superglue his dick to his leg.

[Mello turns his head when Matt comes to stand next to him]

We should wait until he's asleep and rip it off.

[Ai turns around and looks towards the doorway, she comes to the door and looks to both sides, directly through Mello and Matt. The cat comes trotting forward and she drops to her knees, wiping the last of the tears and blood from her face. "Come here Baby, who's mommy's baby, huh?"]

[She scoops the cat up and walks back into the main room. The cat looks thoughtfully at Matt]

[And Matt would follow it. If it were possible. Matt turns his head to watch them go by. A faint smile crosses his lips, then it's gone.]

[Ai puts Baby down on the couch and starts to pet her fur. They just sit there for a little while, then Ai turns on the TV.]
