strange things are afoot

I really wanted to post about the trip I'm taking this fall. After years of petitioning Art Monk is finally being inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. What makes this even sweeter is the fact that one of the best cover corners of all time, Darrell Green, is also being ushered in.

I can't lie and say I've been a Redskins fan my entire life. I wish I could. As a child I had absolutely zero interest in sports of any kind, and my parents respected that. Sure my Dad was a little disappointed but hey, I'm his kid, it didn't really matter. It wasn't until about ten years ago that I started following football.

Since then it's become one of the most prominant things in my life. As with most sports fans I feel a connection, one that hasn't been present before. Obviously it's due to vicarious living but mostly it's respect.

Because although sports are merely a distraction, I romanticize the lessons I missed out on. Teamwork, dedication, comraderie, passion, fun, taking the good with the bad...Sure I learned these things in other ways. But it would have been fun this way as well.

So, my Dad and I are taking a trip to Canton, OH to see praise heaped upon these men I've never met and never will meet. And I'm more excited for it than anything I've ever been excited for in my life! One of those father son things I can tell my kids about someday. It will be the best.

Other things coming up:

5/23-5/26 Chicago for Screeching Weasel
5/30 Wizard World Philly (probably not since I'll be broke woo)
6/20 Alkaline Trio w Kellan in Allentown
6/27-28 Some Fest in Baltimore or something
8/29-9/1 Dragon Con w my nerd roommate
10/10-12 Riot Fest in Chicago (ALL IS PLAYING W SCOTT REYNOLDS)

That last one is the thing I'm second most excited for. Ever.
