According to
Mike's Amazing World of DC Comics (via CBR's Robot6 blog), today marks the 70th anniversary since Detective Comics #27 hit stores everywhere across the United States - April 18, 1939.
Unfortunately, the big guy himself isn't around to celebrate his own anniversary, despite being so incredibly popular. I deeply regret to inform you that DC Comics has him either dead or lost in time somewhere right now, and he doesn't seem to be coming back very soon. What a way for a company to express their love for a character they helped create and grow after all these years.
But we fangirls (and fanboys) have our own little way of expressing our love for the Dark Knight and that's by keeping him alive and treating him well in our own little stories and art. And yes, there was that little popular movie that was released last July that captivated so many fans into learning more about Bruce Wayne/Batman, and we hope there will be many more in the years to come. Maybe a World's Finest movie won't be too far off now...? One can only hope.
We miss you, Bruce,
very, very much. We all hope you'll have a safe return, wherever you'll be coming from, and hopefully in time for your big 75th anniversary in 2014. If DC fails to acknowledges that, we fans most certainly won't. <3
