Postponing the Worldpride B (to be continued too)algabelMay 17 2005, 21:26:14 UTC
Let me put some points together: a) Anyway, since the very beginning Israeli gays had very mixed feelings about the whole thing. First of all, because JOH was acting without any real networking done within the Israeli community, without really cooperating with the Israeli gay, lesbian, transgender and transsexual associations. But at the same time behaved as if JOH is the speaker of gay Israel. b) Slowly the Israeli community started to accept this dizzeling fact (a) as some kind of reality and choose to be at least proud of having this event here in our country. Still, no one really activated the local community. It comes to the absurd, that the touristic coop-partner of the event is a conference and congress operator (Kenes), who as no linkeage whatsoever to the community, whereas existing gay managed or gay operated companies were left out of everything. c) Out of the local perspective, the whole thing was developped in a more then dilettantish way. In whatever sector you look, it was/is a profond lack of professionalism. This in regard of local and global networking, marketing and public affairs. e - but not principally the last point in importance) Most of the Israeli community itself was and is not supporting the idea of having Worldpride in Jerusalem but to have it rather in Tel-Aviv. Lot of the Israeli community see it as an unnessecary provocation of sensitive Jerusalemite communities. There is a huge difference between organizing a local CSD in Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and having a Worldpride there. One should expect local organizers to know their own society and country before they undertake to push through an event that is not suiting local (and one could even say global) parameters.
