I had posted about this dream about 3-4 months ago - then I wrote about it again on my fetlife blog - the fetlife blog version was definitely written better than the original. So I'm going to copy and paste that version here.
This is a dream - came out of Alex Jr's head actually - allegories is kind of his trademark (the train story was one of his, but that's a fairly complex one). This isn't as complex - there's about 3-4 different angles to this - thought that
oldscratch may like this story - even if he can't understand how it relates to acceptance (to loss or self-acceptance in general)
So, here's the dream (I wrote this from my perspective btw) (I tried to do a cut and failed, sorry)
About 6 months ago, although I think it was more like 3-4 months ago, Carrie had this dream, not surprising now this day will be here soon. I'll try to transcribe whatever details I can remember - it's a nice allegory/analogy that could apply to 2-3 things, but this is something Carrie has struggled with for a long time.
Please forgive me if my memory's a bit fuzzy with details. The dream was about a big task/job. There was magic and most of all, teamwork and a circle involved. You'll probably figure out what the "circle" represents pretty quickly, the rest you'll need to finish reading the story to get the gist of what it's about.
I don't remember what the actual "job" or "task" was, Carrie was a person was someone that was selected. There was a group of people, I'd say about 30-40? There were men in the group, perhaps 60% of them were women and the rest were men, not sure of the ratio of gender.
This was the setup as I recall, it was supposed to be a coordinated effort, group needed to form a circle and someone needed to stay in the middle. What's important is that person in the middle will be in charge of letting the folks in the circle know when they can start their chant/drum circle and break out as a group and has a special task/step that no one else can do. This has to be done only by someone that can perform this task, someone unique and special.
So, Carrie became the person in the middle of the circle, she had a special whistle and signals to let others in the group know when to start, stop, etc.. She was selected to do this special task, without her, the entire circle wouldn't succeed, and vice versa.
There was something very magical about the circle too, not everyone had a drum, some could chant/sing, there could have been at least one or two flutists, but there a strong synchronicity about that group - a oneness that really lured you in. Carrie felt that lure, that tug and that yearning to be part of that synchronicity, that utopian-like energy from them. She talked/socialized a bit with them, but basically stuck with being in the middle.
She really wished she could be part of the drumming circle (I'm calling it that just cause I like the way it rolls off), but she was the only person that can do this part of the job and she was selected to do this.
Carrie started to feel a strange hum, where everyone was at. The space they were in, resembled a large business type conference room, the kind that has the roll-away walls so you can extend the size of the room. Everyone got in that circle, with Carrie in the middle, the hum got louder, Carrie signaled and the first drummer nodded his head and started. Women sang, some held hands, some didn't. Soon, all you could hear was the hum, then the lights dimmed and the walls around the circle started to fade away.
It was time, Carrie blew her special whistle and said, "We can start now,"
The circle moves further away, and Carrie saw members of the circle disappear into the walls of the large room, and there was complete silence. Then she realized, that she was the only person in the room, and it was her turn.
She walked backwards through/into a wall and found herself in a forest. She could hear the humming and distant sounds of the drums. Part of her wanted to look for others that belonged to the drumming and be part of that hum..synchronicity.
But she had a special task that no one else could do. she had to do this task alone...
This is all I could remember of the dream (woke up soon after).
There are couple of points to this story: in the past it was always been a viewpoint, of hers anyway, that unless you're part of the team, you can't be involved in teamwork (wrong), and that one's better than the other. This has been the struggle, her always wanting to belong with a group of people. second point: She's been at a fork in the road, actually for a while now, the decision's already been made which road she was going to take, it's accepting the decision and being okay with the outcome.
That's the difficult part. Now, that day is here.
I'm sure you know which road that's been decided on (well the story already set that up). I'm sure there are more points to this story than what I'm come up with or figured out (allegories tend to be very layered)

This was originally written about 3-4 months ago. That day has come and went - more quickly than I thought.
Can you guess what the decision was? Did she go with the drumming circle/group or did she complete her task?
And about the decision - that was another layer - it's being okay with that decision/acceptance. It really did translate to self-acceptance cause if you take that circle and being in the forest and remove them - it's being okay with the decision that was the major crux.
As it ended up - some drama forced Carrie to make that decision earlier than we thought she would - and ironically, the drama had to do with a group of people.
Ironies are funny in that way...
