"it's so cold in alaska..."

ITEM! i was woken up bleary-eyed this morning (abt 5.00amish) by what sounded like elevator muzak/"smooth jazz" - at first i thort it was coming from a flat upstairs or next door - "what idiot is playing this racket at this hour?" - but then as i gradually woke up properly i realised it was coming from the downstairs of our very own flat - did we have a jazz loving burglar or ghost? - or had
giddyoldgoat come back from scotland? - so i went downstairs to find lulu (our girl cat) sitting upon the telly remote gontrol on the sofa - her big eyes intently watching the teletext - with the light jazz soundtrack blaring out

it was my own fault for leaving the tele on standby - apologies to the environment - i normally do switch it off properly, honest ( - i am pleased to have a cat that can work the remote control tho - as long as they don't conquer the fridge door, it's all goob )

both our cats like to sit on remote controls - or a mobile phone if they can find one - it's almost like they're trying to incubate/hatch them out - but neither of them has watched much telly since they were kittens - when they used to follow the balls on snooker or the football

ITEM! yesterday i brought home a few items of shopping (as i do most days) including some grisps, a the real mccoys ridge cut classic six pack - imagine my surprise when i opened it to find 7 rather than 6 packets inside - a free extra bag of crisps - i checked all over & it wasn't a special offer - probably just a mistake during packaging - at the time i thought THIS IS THE GREATEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE - but i realise now that this was a slight exaggeration - still, it put me in a goob mood for the rest of the day - and ghazal got fired from the apprentice as well

( the free extra bag o' grisps was salt & vinegar, btw )

this happiest of events made me think of this old song by the sundays: "the finest hour/i've ever known/was finding a pound/on the underground..." - i must see if i can dig out the first (& only?) sundays album - i'm sure i've still got my super-scratched vinyl copy somewhere

lulu, the sundays, enzo, the real mccoys crisps, the royal tenenbaums, the velvet underground, remote controls, cats
