"i used to lie & cheat - lie and cheat and step on peoples feet..."

ITEM! the other day i was staying with some dear friends ("nice people, nice people") who get challenge tv - what a treat to see brucie in play your cards right at 9.00am ( - i don't remember it ever having guest stars but kenny lynch came on for a quick gag: "he'll do anything for a free drink", said bruce )

brucie bonus: he's doing a new show w/vernon kay called saturday night showdown: "a brand new entertainment pilot for Saturday night, where they'll keep you enthralled with a fantastic line up of celebrity guests, fabulous music performances, games and much, much more" - it's sounds a little bit like the much-maligned but actually BRILLIANT bruce forsyth's big night from the late 1970s - we can but hope...

ITEM! i've had three "missed recordings" in the last week ( ie the telly people have not been showing things when they say they will ):

over the bank holiday weekend i set the machine to record the extended repeat of have i got news for you presented by bill bailey - but the snooker overran - i can't really gompain 'cos i like a bit of snooker myself (in moderation) - but now i don't know if b.bailey was any goob or not ( - he's not one of my favourites, i must admit ) - or who else was on it

then they took off bargain hunt on thursday to make space for tony blair's resignation announcement ( that we all knew was coming ) - and to add insult to injury they shoehorned in a truncated episode of the far inferior cash in the attic into the remaining gap - i wouldn't mind but it wasn't even a lorne spicer one

the oddest missed recording tho - i was expecting a short programme about the life of terry thomas ( "a profile of the quintessential english actor, star of school for scandal and its a mad, mad, mad, mad world" ) and instead got suggs from madness wandering round soho talking about baked potatoes and oven chips - i think what happened is that that for some reason the itv1 feed to our freeview box came from anglia rather than the carlton region ( - it doesn't usually tho, afaik )

( famous last words but these things usually come in threes - don't they? - so my viewing pleasure should be safe from now on )

ITEM! on my way back from the putney somerfields today w/the grauniad, coffee, winegums & kitchen towels i spotted a lone playing card face down in a puddle - so i thort i'd flip it over and it'd tell my fortune - it was the ten of clubs - can anybody tell me what this "means"...?

( i put the card back face down in the puddle for the next person, obv )

* saved! - as played on brian matthew's sounds of the sixties this morning ( - i'd only heard the elvis version before )

maynards wine gums, elvis presley, bargain hunt, sounds of the sixties, kenny lynch, fortune telling, terry-thomas, brian matthew, lavern baker, playing cards, bruce forsyth
