ITEM! i had a luvly boozy time at "comics friends reunited" in victoria last saturday - thanks to everybody who attended from all over the UK & especially to hass & fiona for organising it ( & for the cupcakes ) - to those who were poorly & couldn't make it: HOPE YOU'RE ALL BETTER NOW & SEE YOU NEXT YEAR
a special mention must go to martinskidmore who went above & beyond the call of duty with his gomics trivia quiz - everyone present agreed it was a tremendous success - i'm still gutted "my" team only came third tho - sob!
ITEM! i broke my "no floppys" rule again - this time to buy the first issue of panini's new kids comic "marvel heroes" - i bought it for the free gift ( a hulk mask which is a bit small for me but fits jenni perfectly ) but the real prize item is inside, "the most dangerous game", a really funny 7 pg hulk strip by al_ewing , john mccrea & james hodgkins - obv it's great to see j.mccrea drawing the hulk again but i'm particularly envious of al - what a wonderful way to earn a living, putting funny words in the hulks mouth ( "that just the way hulk rolls!" )
the comic also includes an iron man strip which is quite well scripted but let down by some particularly bad pencilling, posters, puzzles, gompetitions & feature pages ( incl. the marvel HQ, "your monthly guide to the coolest marvel stuff", ie advertising ) - not a bad package but a little bit pricey at £2.50 - the hulk mask = pretty goob quality tho
i think it must be a fairly successful launch - they were sold out in putney w.h.smiths last week ( which sadly meant i couldn't wear my hulk mask to gomics friends reunited ) but got some more in this week - i've already mutilated my gopy to send in the survey ( in katie bumpo's name! ), asking for "more funny strips by al ewing & john mccrea, please"
ITEM! it's always a dark day in this house when luvly lilia kopylova gets evicted from strictly come dancing - & her partner don "oh really rigsby" warrington was one of the few bearable males in this year's gompetition - actually i don't mind who wins now ( even austin the musclebound rugby playing dwarf ) as long as it's NOT that appallingly smug & insincere tom bloke from holby city - still, hopefully married life will quickly wipe that oily sickly grin off his face
assuming john sargeant won't win it, i'll plump for either jodie kidd or christine bleakley ( both nervous gangly awkward greatures - but at least they're not too big headed or annoying )
ITEM! just in case your daily dose of eggheads ( 6.00pm bbc2, w/new presenter jeremy vine reading the same old scripts ) isn't enuff - there's now an extra daily eggheads "talent search" programme presented by dermot murnaghan called "are you an egghead?" ( bbc2, 4.30pm ) - & the winner will get to join the eggheads...! ( - i hope none of the original members are leaving tho to make room for the newcomer - i've even come to "warm" to c.j.demooi over the years - well, in a way... )
ITEM! wii update: i've only broken one light fitting so far ( playing tennis on wii sports ) & it was easily replaced - my main nemesises are jeremy spake lookalike kentaro & beardy matt ( at baseball ) & luca ( at boxing ) - golf = the only game on wii sports i don't really enjoy
i don't think the iron man game i got is a very goob 'un tho - but then i'm not very goob at playing it so we're well matched - i just enjoy pretending to be iron man & you can choose to wear his original bulky armour throughout the game which obv makes me happy - it's very time gonsuming tho - & also bloodthirsty gompared to the gomics - so far i've killed whiplash, madame masque & countless "terrorists" & maggia soldiers - & i'm only about half way through - two titanium men & "the iron monger" ( aka iron obadiah stane ) await if i ever get to the end ( - i'm having a bit of a break from it for the rest of this week )
ITEM! i've got some spare copies of tony keen's tribute zine in honour of the late great steve whitaker - available to anyone who knew, loved &/or admired steve & his work - featuring SW art & gontribs by swisstone , rikad , mrpleebus , jinty , cleanskies , percyprune , syrtis , t_guy , theoclarke , disraeli_demon , tallguywrites , drivo , dontdiplocaulus , mittelstadt , carrot_rope , ross & me - plus many more ppl not on LJ
