" wine is sweet & gin is bitter "

ITEM! two great quotes from jay rayner in yesterday's eating with the enemy - "have this woman washed & bring her to my tent - that's a fantastic biscuit" & "joyce's chicken was as tough & brutal as a martin scorcese gangster movie - but nowhere near as entertaining"

my main gomplaint abt this programme is that it's always very obvious who's gonna win ( ie it wasn't joyce ) - especially once each gontestant has had their "review" - & yet the pretend suspense is dragged out for ages - still you can always rely on kate spicer to bring things down to earth: "a distressing chemical reaction took place in my mouth" - & that was before she'd eaten anything...!

ITEM! on yesterday's cash in the celebrity attic presenter gloria hunniford teased us viewers abt the identity of the celeb by saying "she's a multi talented actress & presenter"

it turned out to be squeaky voiced ex blue peter sexpot janet ellis ( - mother of sophie ellis "the" bextor ) - i didn't know she was an actress but apparently she was in a tom baker dr who i haven't seen ( "the horns of nimon" ) & an episode of the sweeney - the only place i've seen her recently is being a reactionary talking head on that awful matthew wright morning prog on channel five

unfortunately she didn't have any blue peter badges to sell at auction cos she'd used all her spares to bribe traffic wardens into letting her off parking tickets - still her 18th century indian carved scared cow statue earned £85 & in total she raised £864 for her chosen charity - so well done janet

ITEM! tonite's w.o.agwu telly choice: part 2 of "return to castaway" ( - it's a 5 part thingy ), bbc2, 7.30pm - shame it's being done in such a tabloidy manner with robert webb's mocking narration - castaway was a marginally more serious programme than this treatment implies - still, i guess i'll take what i can get to see tammy "the huffster" huff again - i always hoped she'd get together with ben fogle - they could STILL be the next richard & judy ( - except richard has already replaced judy with emma "ton o' buns" bunton, apparently ) - "fogle & huff" has such a nice ring to it ( - they cld be partners in a detective agency if nothing else )

i forgot what a nasty piece of work psychotherapist & ex inspector morse bit part actor* ron copsey was - looking for big brother style fame ( or infamy ) he'd really turned up for the wrong show

* iirc he played a waiter in "the wolvercote tongue"

the daily mirror headline "robinson FLUsoes" - abt the poorly ppl who'd left the island to stay in a hotel - made me smile

ITEM! big brother: did rex have a craig phillips vs nasty nick moment in last nite's gonfrontation with rachel...? ( - "ssshhhhh - IT...!" ) - & is he gonna win it now?

i don't think so myself cos sexy rexy = such a pompous arse & imo came across more as a bully than as "a seeker of the truth" ( - thanks lisa ) - but he seems to be very popular with the viewing & voting public - "i'd swap you for scrabble - i'd swap you for a pencil" was pretty mean tho

still, a big w.o.agwu "well done" to the producers for stirring things up with the nominations pod & audition tapes - tonite's nommos should be VERY interesting ( - i'd luv it if it all somehow backfired on the heavenly housemates ) - i notice that stu's taking his head of house duties so seriously that he's stopped using his manscara & guyliner for the duration - presumably to give his pronouncements more gravitas?

btw, i hope we're gonna hear more from darnell about THE 48 LAWS OF POWER - please discuss it with lisa at yr earliest opportunity...!

* the price of love: i'm not usually a big fan of b.ferry but this is a great version - miles better than the everly brothers imo

big brother, eating with the enemy, castaway
