It's not just a river in Egypt, folks

My dad called me in the middle of a fascinating lecture on wave interference this morning. Why did he do this? What emergency could possibly be so important?

The president of the Mormon Church died last night.

Because I'd care. Really. I mean, it's not like I didn't leave their church 8 years ago or anything, right?

Oh, wait.

In all seriousness, I do care in so far as it affects them and their feelings. But I ceased having anything resembling fuzzy feelings for the guy many years ago when he started getting the church (and hence my tithing money) involved in politics aimed at screwing me and my life over. I'm not happy he's dead, but you'll have to forgive me if I don't get all broken up about the death of the man that smothered my faith with a pillow. In the final analysis, it's better that he did, but that doesn't make him any less of a douche.

Doubly irritating was the last sentence in the message Dad left on my voice mail: "It's important to us and we hope it's still important to you too." Um, hello? This is Houston Mission control to Martian Colony: I left last decade, and this one's almost over. Why would it be important to me, except as "I'm sorry you feel bad"? I realize there's a slight communications delay between here and Mars, but come ON.

GRAH.

family, fundies
