UGH. So this chick on my fb news feed just called LeBron James a "monkey who shoots balls at a hoop for a living." She said this in the context of his decision not being appropriate for so much discussion on news media, especially in comparison to a recent pro-same sex marriage ruling (which I AGREE WITH), but she still called a black man a monkey.
WHICH IS SO NOT OKAY, OH MY GOD.
And I don't think she knows it's not okay, and I don't think most people who were like, ha ha, YEAH! know it's not okay, and I don't know if I should see the silver lining in this, like, the fewer people who have knowledge of the old Africans=simians trope, the better, but seriously (monkey).
AND THIS from a chick who's a sports fan! So, sorry that the sport you're not interested in is having a big day. This is really a separate annoyance, that people love to talk on and on, sometimes exclusively, on their own blogs/fbs/twitters about things that interest them, but they have zero patience with anyone else doing the same. Goodness knows I wouldn't miss anything if Community was never heard from again, but at least if I whine about it, I'll do it acknowledging my own obsessive and boring tendencies.
