[When the video comes on, it shows a suddenly timid Sinclair cleaning up the remnants of the bloody sheets. The five dogs (for the two ripped apart by m!Jack were granted life again by the mansion) are sitting across the room, staring at him, as if they don't know what to do. Sinclair's quietly murmuring to himself, unsure of how to properly ( Read more... )

[The handwriting on the mirror certainly wasn't Sinclair's (not that Jack was particularly familiar with Sinclair's writing), but Jack had a hunch that he was behind it anyway, and he is good about checking up on such requests.

So, now, after a series of misadventures, he is heading back down Sinclair's hallway, looking worse for the wear. He's received a few more memories as well, and is finding them rather disturbing.

At first, Gus looks just to be sitting in the chair in front of the mirror, and Jack entertains the notion that he's conversing with his counterpart somehow.]

Gus?

[Wait, why is the room full of butterflies? And that smell...]

Gus?

[He stares at the dead man for a long, long time before he retreats, his mouth moving soundlessly, and then the shaking starts. He hits the wall and slides down, just staring.

Sometime later, moving mechanically, he covers Gus with the sheet from the bed, and retrieves pen and paper from the closet. Painstakingly, he writes with his left hand--in reverse, no less--and places the note against the mirror.

It's barely readable, but it says:]

Are you okay?

[He assumes it's Sinclair he's writing to.]

[Very, very uneasy handwriting begins to write itself on the mirror.]

Yes.

Are you?

[He takes the paper down and scribbles furiously. He forgets to write backward, and he's using his non-dominant hand, so have fun with that.]

I'm having hallucinations

or memories

a city in the sea full of blood
is it real?

[Oh, here we go. It takes him a while to even figure out what's going on on that page, but he figures it out.]

Rapture.

[He leaves that up for a while, before adding:]

Yes.

[He never quite looks all the way at the mirror, keeping his head down, but his hand shakes visibly when he writes.]

please come back

...Damnit, Jack. [He sighs heavily, shaking his head. Poor beast.]

... Can I, with him being like that?

Didn't look in his eyes. Think I have to.

"We have to look at each other", someone said.

I could try.

[He doesn't want to try, has no idea if it'll even work. But he's done worse things than this, and his mouth sets.]

Sorry, Gus.

[He uncovers the dead man's face, eyes flicking away.]

[Oh, wow. It's worse the second time.

Sinclair stares at those eyes for a moment, and then turns away.]

Not working.

Get him out of there. I don't care how.

Where are my dogs?

[Jack covers him and chews his lip. He can't just dump him unceremoniously in the closet. He puts that off for the moment.]

I can't find them.

[Experimentally, he snaps his fingers. Which activates Electrobolt, but oh well. No dogs are in evidence.]

I can't go looking. I'm hurt and there is a man after me with rockets.

[Shit. He curses under his breath, pausing to think.]

They'll come back.

Maybe you should stay there. There's a cache of weapons in the cabinet next to the bed.

Use anything you need. The mines and grenades might work the best. Stop him before he gets in.

Unless I know him, he won't know where my room is, and he probably won't look there, anyways.

You have your Plasmids, too.

Weird.

Must be. I don't think she'd attack you.

She damn near attacked me the first time I spoke to her for you.

You should be fine if you stay hidden.

i'm not going anywhere

[He is, however, going to take care of Gus' body now. He settles on carrying the corpse, bloodstained sheet and all, and laying it gently down on the closet floor. After a moment's reflection, he summons up some flowers, too.]

Good to know. I could use the company. I'm trapped over here with Lamb, of all people.

I swear to God she had something to do with my death.
