It often feels like my bosses at work don't want me to actually care about things because they often seem to be in a position where they couldn't care less unless it might make them look bad to their bosses. I think that's truly about the only time they care about an issue. International education? The people who work for you? No, don't worry about that. Wait, it might lower our numbers that my bosses watch? Oh, we care about that. So I often find myself in a position of working my ass off to cover for the things that they don't seem to care about, but things that would end up biting them in the ass if I didn't work my ass off covering.

It really just makes me want to quit working my ass off and do the minimum necessary. Just let them deal with everything instead of me stressing. Two things unfortunately stop me from doing that. One is the fact that I like the people that I supervise that I would be screwing by letting my bosses handle (or more likely not handle) things. Two, I actually am in my job because I care about things international, including international education. I think I would just be happier working in an environment where the people above me were actually more concerned about international education and serving international students than simply pumping out numbers to keep their bosses happy to keep moving up the chain to things most likely not even related to international education.
