Another example of how my ideas dissonate (a verb I just made up from "dissonance"--hey, "resonate" is a verb...) from those of so many people around me. Here's a quote from Education Week, a leader to an article, presented as though it were a striking--and innovative--insight:
"Educators increasingly are interested in measures designed to improve, not just monitor, learning and teaching."
With the exception of final exams/synthesis papers, every test, quiz, writing assignment, practicar, whatever is designed so that at least part of its purpose is formative. Honestly, in a pedagogical sense, there's not much point to monitoring "learning and teaching" unless your goal is to improve the process, right?
