Hi everyone :)
I'm volunteering in Vietnam for 6 weeks with my university (there's 10-15 of us going) this summer, then a few of us are taking a quick 2 week tour round cambodia and possibly thailand. I'm only volunteering for a couple of hours a day, although most days I will probably stay in the orphanage/school and help out, etc, I'll still have ( Read more... )

there are trains to get around Vietnam and the overnights aren't too bad between places.
Locally if you get stuck, there are plenty of motorbike drivers with helmets if you get stuck who you can negotiate a price with and they have helmets.
There are plenty of cheap internet cafes and I would suggest using skype (you can call landlines and mobiles for it) while on the internet because it works out much cheaper than a phone card.
Hue itself has the palace and the tombs which must be visited - Hoi An is great to go and get clothes made and Ngha trang is a great beach place (these two are close to Hue)
I found my Rough Guide did a good job, I had no complaints with it.

Oh you've got to try peanut satay it is incredible and local street food (just make sure the food is covered)

Dvds are very cheap there and all the ones I got worked perfectly so take advantage of them there rather than Thailand

Erm if you do Cambodia which you must certainly should, I loved it, you'll want to check for maleria tablets.

Both countries are very safe to be around but carry cash and passport in bodybag that sits flat against you.

Pack clothes that have multiple uses and well I'll add more as I think of them
