Banff to Vancouver-- recommended stops?

My family and I are planning to visit Canada at the end of summer for the first time. We'll be heading to Lake Louise first before driving across to Vancouver. We're planning to take it easy and allow two nights for the drive, but I'd love suggestions for where to stop.
I've heard about Revelstoke, Kamloops, Jasper, and Salmon Arm, and I'd really appreciate any advice about which two towns would split the drive up pleasantly! Hotel recommendations are very welcome as well! Thanks in advance.
