Ramadan 2013
grav_ity has made a "Ramadan for irony_rocks in 2013" post. I signed up for July 10th. irony_rocks made a tips post here.
Anyway, I wanted to make this first post before I finished my fast. I plan on making another post after.
I decided to fast for IR because of how great our friendship has been for many years, plus I understand about wanting to participate in something that is extremely important to you, but you can't. IR understands that Allah knows what she is going through, and that He does not condemn her- but it is still hard. So I hope that we can help her by doing this. Also, I understand (to an extent) how important fasting is in ones religion. In my own religion (I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints) we have what we call "Fast Sunday" every month. The first Sunday of every month we fast for 2 full meals (plus no water- gum- anything) with our focus being on God and all that he has done for us. With us trying to remember all the blessings we have been given- as well as remembering the things that we should ask forgiveness for. Then we take the money that we would have spent on two meals and give what we call a "Fast Offering" to our church which goes to help feed the poor. (of our own church as well as others outside the church) So like I said, I understand- to a smaller degree how important this is. irony_rocks do you remember when we met that you said your father liked my religion and felt that our religions had a lot in common? I think he is right. ;)
So I undertake this fast for my dear friend irony_rocks but also for myself- to remind myself of the blessings and wonderment that God has given me in my life.
