My parents let me have their old car after graduation. It was always supposed to be my car in high school, they just wouldn't let me take it to college. So I took it to Harrisonburg. Fifteen minutes here it promptly broke ( Read more... )

What exactly is wrong with it? I might know someone that can help.

I mean, $2000 worth of damages means you might as well buy another one.

Guy says the transmission is broked. Something about second and third gears wearing away. He said the best thing to do is rebuild it, but I'm going to call around and see if its possible to put a used transmission in it and how much that is.
If you have any suggestions, I'm open to them. I really dont know what to do.
Except stay humble. I remember that you also went through many car troubles and you were saintly calm about it. Way to go, Captain Temperance.

I recommend that you look around and see what the exact same car would cost you used. My guess is that it is substantially less than $2000 dollars ( ... )

Not that this will really help you (Since money is scarce either way), but if you do decide to get another car (and want one that'll last) I know a guy up here that sells salvage cars from about $3000 and up. I bought my car from this guy three years ago. At the time the car was two years old and had 26,000 miles on it and it was only $5000, so I'm sure he's got older cars with more mileage for much cheaper (at least he did three years ago, and I know he's still in business.)

I hope you can get your car fixed/another one, though. *hugs*

Now seems like the right time to get a job that doesn't require you to drive anywhere. Walk to a place, beg for a job, even a shitty one, something that will start putting cash in your pocket. Arby's janitor, anything.

That said, don't you have a savings account of money you never touch for just such an emergency?

What needs to be done (I've not read any comments made on this post). My bro's a gearhead he'd be able to help, I'm sure.

Besides, if you actually TALKED to me, I may 'ave been able to help you sooner. I leave VA tomorrow.

I think I've taken care of it now - at least, for less amount of money than I was originally told and hopefully it'll be fixed. Thanks, though!
