I don't know how many of you out there are fans of the Nickelodeon show Avatar: The Last Airbender, but I am. Last semester, me and Travis, Kytri and John waded through all the episodes, drinking in each half hour of well animated, surprisingly deep yet charmingly simple kid's program. Wondering idly (as one does) yesterday, I went to the intarbutts to see when the new season would be out.
I did not find this piece of information. What I did find out was that there is going to be an Avatar movie.
It will be live action.
It will be written and directed by M. Night Shymalon.
First off, I feel as if this is such a drastic change from the neat cartoon I got into that they might as well have told me "We're making a new Sesame Street movie. Big Bird will be played by Danny Devito. It will be set in space. It will be hardcore porn."
Second, I think that the fact that it's a live action M. Night Shymalon film is that stupid twist at the end of all his movies, except now it comes before the movie is even finished. It left me feeling surprised, and then immediately unsatisfied. This is the Avatar movie, for me:
"I wonder when the new season is. Oooh, Avatar movie? A movie of Avatar? Oooh! Wait...live action...directed by WHO? I didn't see that coming! Wait...this doesn't make any sense...it was just thrown in to be shocking to the masses...THIS MOVIE SUCKS!"
Coicidently, that is pretty much my reaction for anything I've ever seen by this director, ever.
My rage is boiling hotter than the heat of one billion nuclear star bombs.
