In memory of Meg

Apr 02, 2008 10:01

A few weeks ago, my friend Meg fell down a flight of concrete stairs and suffered serious head injuries. She was put on life support and for a little while there was hope she might recover. However, it became clearer that her injuries were far worse than first thought and that she had little chance of recovery. After what must have been the most agonising decision in their lives, Meg’s mum and brother turned off her life support systems so that her final wish could be carried out.

Meg was an organ donor.

Because of her generous gesture, there are people who have been given a second chance at life. There are two people who will be able to see. I firmly believe that Meg's spirit lives on in these anonymous people.

It's not a big deal to be an organ donor but you can change people's live. You can save people's lives. If you're not already an organ donor, please seriously consider becoming one. If you decided to becomes a donor, discuss it with your family and friends so they know your wishes. In turn, it may encourage them to become one as well. In a terrible moment, there's a chance to find a little hope.

In Australia, we have a national register and I'm on it. I've had the discussion with my family and they know my wishes. If something ever happened to me, I want to follow in the footsteps of my friend, Meg.

By becoming an organ donor you could save lives. Please consider it.
