"I'm in love with two men"

No, not me! The writer of this interesting letter to Cary Tennis's advice column on Salon. (Hopefully you don't need to be a Salon Premium member to see this.) The woman is faced with the dilemma of loving two men and feeling like she has to choose between them.

A couple of interesting things:

The writer assumes that her second option, whom she calls Robert, has "no life" without her because he spends his Saturday nights alone watching DVDs or reading books. Excuse me?! Since when did that constitute not having a life? She is clearly an extrovert and may have trouble understanding Robert's introverted tendencies.

Tennis gives some interesting advice, which is that maybe she doesn't need to choose right now, although he seems completely oblivious to the fact that this is, in fact, something people actually do (as in polyamory). He seems to think he's made up the idea on his own.

He also concludes that the writer must be an extrovert because only an extrovert would get herself into the position of loving two men. Uhhhm, think again! Every poly person I know is an introvert to a small or large degree (including me, on the 100% introvert end of the scale).

I guess the good news is that at least an advice columnist in a fairly popular online magazine acknowledges that sometimes two is better than one!
