Words from the master

This is from Neil (The Master of the Blogosphere) Gaiman's interview with Charlie Fletcher, available here

"Kids aren't terribly interested in reading about sex, in the same way that kids aren't terribly comfortable when they see a drunk over the road … and there's stuff that adults do that's just boring. I think of The Graveyard Book as being an adult book that leaves out the boring bits and doesn't have the sex in… (but still] goes down a long way."

Now, the "not being interested in sex" doesn't apply to teens, but I think NG is onto something in general. When you come down to it, we humans young and old are all interested in many of the same things and it's when we tell stories about those same things that we reach the widest audience.

So, why am I writing about teens and romance, or teens and politics (my two current projects). Because I think teens are at the point where they find these things interesting. Because they are what I can write about at this point in my life.

And  maybe also, because I'm not Neil (Long may he reign) Gaiman.

Now this mere mortal wordsmith is going back to work.
