writing, revising, a small miracle and a great day

I didn't make a ton of money today, but I got a lot done. In addition to some rough drafting on a paying job, I a) revised another chapter of my current project, b) prepared a revised picture book manuscript for submission and c) got the voice and the beginning for a project I've been working on for about two years, off and on, that just hasn't been coming together.

That last thing was one of those small miracles that happen every so often, at least in my writing life. Here's what happened: This afternoon, late, I was reading Kate O'Sullivan's article in an old edition of Hornbook from 2006, and in it she is talking about the things she looks for in YA manuscripts, including voice, and suddenly there my popped into my head and said something that gave me the right perspective and starting point for her story.

Bottom line--I quickly banged out a page plus of text to let me know where I'm going with this and called it a day.

Now, we'll see if it looks as good when I go back to it.

Happy weekend everyone!
