bostonerin inspired me to do a quick post on Why I Write:
I write because I have loved words almost ever since I can remember, going back to when my mother taught me how to write pop and pup and poppy and puppy and maybe even before that when I was learning the alphabet by playing with those plastic magnet letters--yellow A, blue B....
I write because I love to read, especially stories (fiction, non-fiction, if there's a story, I'm hooked).
I write because some little girl (BD) once demanded a "telling story" after all the book stories at bed time and she would not put up with the same story twice.
I write because after trying all sorts of other things that it turned out I could do very well, but that never left me quite satisfied, I discovered that writing feels right.
I write because when I don't write, I get cranky and difficult to live with (ask BD, aka
booksareadrug, or HH).
I write because writing magazine profiles and local reporting let me talk to all sorts of different people and lead me to all sorts of fascinating discoveries.
I write because I have stories I want to share with the world.
