There's so much to be thankful for this week:
A wonderful novel-writing retreat that left me with numerous thoughts for improving StT as well as some craft advice I will carry with me permanently. The details are
here.
The first robin.
Steam rising from sugarhouses, which means there'll be fresh maple syrup, and that daytime temperatures are now more above freezing than below.
The latest Green Mountain Book Award list--for 2011-2012:
A little over a year from now, high school students who have read three from the following list will be able to vote for their favorite:
Wintergirls, Laurie Halse Anderson.
Tales of the Madman Underground, John Barnes.
Geektastic: Stories from the Nerd Herd, ed. Holly Black & Cecil Castelluci.
Book of Lost Things, John Connolly.
Little Brother, Cory Doctorow.
King of the Screwups, K.L.Going.
I Kill Giants, Joe Kelly.
Hold Still, Nina LaCour.
The Knife of Never Letting Go, Patrick Ness.
Med Head: My Knock-down, Drag-out, Drugged-up Battle With My Brain, James Patterson & Hal Friedman.
Nation, Terry Pratchett.
101 Places Not to See Before You Die, Catherine Price.
The Secret Story of Sonia Rodriguez, Alan Lawrence Sitomer.
Marcelo in the Real World, Francisco X. Stork.
Monstrumologist, Rick Yancey.
The beauty of this year's list is how many strong titles we had to choose from--the choice is based on books published in the last five years, available in paperback, with two positive reviews in professional publications (Library Journal, School Library Journal, etc.), with recommendations from three of the committee.
A week with my daughter, who'll be home for her last undergraduate vacation tomorrow.
