1. Working with creative people who encourage box-jumping and demolishing. I'm lucky enough to teach as an adjunct at Champlain College, where a) I am treated like a member of the faculty, not a slavey and 2) where experiments in cross-disciplinary and real-world/school are encouraged.
2. Lunch was delicious today--inspired by
angie_frazier I put together an avocado, tomatoes, and shrimp, seasoned with lime, salt and pepper. That's all. Easier than pie and just right for a slightly muggy day.
3. Pre-revision work is going well. Yesterday I devoted the day to them and drew maps, as
halseanderson advised for WFMAD a few days back. I'm really pleased with the way they came out and am also pleased with the way I managed to get in a realistic-looking subdivision road plan. Have you noticed how the new ones absolutely do not believe in right angles and straight lines, but wander around? If anyone out there knows an engineer, I'd love to know if my hypothesis that this is done in order to maximize the number of useable housing lots is correct?
4. I'm not especially thankful that summer is coming to an end, but I am grateful that this summer has been so much more relaxed than the last one. And that's including the frantic run-up to the conference in July. Having full weeks at home has been good, even though the garden got away from me horribly in spite of that.
5. BD turns 21 on Tuesday. She will officially be a full legal adult. She hasn't always had an easy time of it, but she's turned out to be person who knows what she wants and is determined to get it, and a person I like spending time with. We hope this will happen with our children, but it's not something we can be certain of, so I am indeed thankful that it worked out that way for us.
