Visions and Revisions

Aug 08, 2010 21:34

Today was a short writing day, because we visited my parents. They're in their 80s now and we try not to let more than a month go by between visits.

1,000 words added. The sh**ty first draft is now up to 193 pages, which means this is going to be one big baggy manuscript. But that's okay, because it is the sh**ty first draft--or as I prefer to think of it, the slab of marble from which the final novel will be carved.

Add to the list of things I will need to do during the first revision:

Condense a fair amount in the first part of the book.

Revision list now includes:

1) Shift from third to first person
2) Develop external conflict - needs to appear earlier
3) Condense 1st part of book

But it's all doable.

This week, I'll be splitting my day between drafting the Super-ooper-duper Secret Project X and planning a course on Food Writing, which will involve a certain amount of vision and revision in its own right.

Ciao belli!
