I finished the script for chapter 4 of the Riverside Mysteries earlier this week, but wanted to let it incubate for a couple of days before proofreading it and sending it on to
Steve. That's what I really should have been doing today. Instead, I decided to take a swing at thumbnailing a page of the story.
(For those unfamiliar with the term, "thumbnailing" means drawing out a smaller, rougher version of the art. This is done to get an idea of how the page will look before committing to a more detailed version. It's usually a preliminary step by the artist, but some comic writers will do thumbnails to better illustrate what they want the story to look like. Unless the writer is a massive control freak, the artist is then free to draw it like the thumbnails or -- if he or she sees a better way -- to do something different with it.)
So here, ladies and gentlemen, is a preview of The Riverside Mysteries, Chapter 4. As you can see, there's a reason I pay other people to draw these things for me.
(I'm inordinately proud of the kid on the skateboard, actually.)
It'll probably look different when Steve does it.
